One Direction's cover of 'Teenage Kicks' has just got a bit more literal with the news that Louis Tomlinson is set to make his Doncaster Rovers debut next month.

Tomlinson, who is said to be a talented footballer, signed unofficial terms (read: publicity stunt) with Doncaster Rovers last August but has yet to appear for the club in any form. It seems now though that the pop star, who has never played above Sunday League level, will play for his hometown club in a Third Development League fixture, whatever that is.

Gavin Baldwin, Chief Executive of Doncaster Rovers, said: “We are very much looking forward to Louis making his Rovers debut and I know that he can’t wait either.

"Louis has an incredibly busy schedule and we have been working hard with him to ensure we can get a date in his diary for the game. Louis is lifelong Rovers supporter and he comes to watch the team whenever he can, so it will be great for him to put on his Rovers shirt and make his debut for us. I am sure that the Louis’ appearance for Doncaster Rovers will attract lots of attention from One Direction fans and I hope that we will generate lots of new Rovers supporters."

Yep - it's a publicity stunt, alright. But here we are covering it. Well played Doncaster Rovers.

Of course, we haven't seen much of Louis Tomlinson's footy skills except, of course, for the time he played a charity match where he was tackled by Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor and then promptly ran to the sideline to throw up. Ah, memories...
