The young pop star joined Joel at Madison Square Garden

As cliched as it may sound, Olivia Rodrigo's rise over the last year or so can undoubtedly be described as 'meteoric'.

The 19-year-old star only released her debut single 'Drivers License' in January 2021, and a year and a half later, she's selling out tours all over the world and appearing on stage with musical legends at Madison Square Garden.

Rodrigo surprised the crowd at the iconic New York venue when she came out halfway through Billy Joel's set last night to sing both her own song 'Deja Vu', (with him on piano), and one of Joel's most famous hits, 'Uptown Girl'.

The song was released twenty years before Rodrigo was even born, which may both surprise and depress you in equal measures.

'Deja Vu', meanwhile, of course references both Billy Joel and 'Uptown Girl', with the lyrics:

"I'll bet that she knows Billy Joel
'Cause you played her "Uptown Girl"
You're singing it together
Now I bet you even tell her
How you love her
In between the chorus and the verse"
