Kenneth Petty was charged with failing to register as a sex offender

Nicki Minaj's relationship with her husband Kenneth Petty has raised a few eyebrows in the past - not least because of his past.

The New Yorker, who was a childhood friend of the hip-hop star, was convicted of first-degree attempted rape, unlawful imprisonment, and second degree assault in 1995, when he was 17. He served four years in prison.

The pair began dating in 2018 and married in 2019, with Minaj giving birth to their son in September 2020.

However, their relationship has not been plain sailing as Petty was charged in 2019 with failing to register as a sex offender when he moved from New York to Los Angeles.

His case was heard in court yesterday, and he was sentenced to three years' probation and a year of home detention, as well as a $55,000 fine.

Jennifer Hough, the 16-year-old girl who Petty attempted to rape in 1994, filed a lawsuit against both Petty and Minaj last year, accusing them of "witness intimidation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, harassment, assault, battery, sexual assault, and sexual harassment."

Minaj, who has defended her husband as "wrongfully accused" on her Apple Music show in the past, has not yet commented on his latest sentence but posted a picture of Petty and their son to Instagram:
