If convicted, Petty will be in prison for up to 10 years for failing to register as a sex offender in California.
As ever with Nicki Minaj and her personal life, headlines aren't far behind and this time, it's her husband Kenneth Petty that's the subject matter.
Petty was arrested at a traffic stop last year in Los Angeles and was charged with failing to register as a sex offender in the state of California. Petty has a 1995 conviction for attempted rape and a later conviction for manslaughter, and was registered as a sex offender in New York.
At the time of his arrest last year, Petty was released on bond but never actually bothered to register in California. As of yesterday, Petty turned himself into federal marshals and is facing up to ten years in prison if convicted. It's not the first time Petty has had been in prison, either.
Petty did almost four years in a New York prison in 1995 for the attempted rape conviction, and served seven years in prison for manslaughter. At that time, Petty was originally facing a 2nd-degree murder charge, but plead down to a 1st-degree manslaughter charge and was released in 2013.
For all this, however, Minaj doesn't seem phased and has publicly defended her husband on talk shows and Twitter alike. So far, however, Minaj has made no comment on Petty's arrest or his possible prison term.
