Out Among The Stars, a lost album from Johnny Cash, will be released by the late singer's estate next year. The album, recorded by Cash and producer/arranger Billy Sherrill, was recorded between 1981 and 1984 but was never released by the singer's then label, Columbia Records.
The 12 song collection, which includes duet with June Carter Cash and Waylon Jennings, was recorded during a turbulent time during Cash's career, when he was beginning to fall out of favour in popular music as his style of country music was deemed out of fashion by modern listeners.
"We were so excited when we discovered this", Cash's son John Carter Cash told AP. "We were like, 'My goodness, this is a beautiful record that nobody has ever heard.'"
John Carter Cash continues to say that the record exhibits his father's voice at the absolute height of its powers, revealing that Cash's voice sounds "pitch perfect".
The lost album was found stashed away in Cash's personal vault and was discovered in 2012, some nine years after the country music legend passed away.
Out Among The Stars will be released on 25th March next via Legacy Recordings.
