The two rappers may be from different eras, but they both killed it at the VMAs
There's no question that Missy 'Misdemeanour' Elliott is both a living legend of the hip-hop world and a trailblazer when it comes to women in the genre.
So it's only right that she be recognised for her work over the years - and that's precisely what happened at the MTV VMAs last night.
The 'Work It' hitmaker was honoured with the Vanguard award during the ceremony, and her first VMAs performance in 16 years proved that she has still very much got 'it'.
With a medley of hits including the aformentioned 'Work It', 'Get Ur Freak On', 'Pass That Dutch', 'Lose Control' and more, it's safe to say that she pretty much stole the show. What we wouldn't give to see her on tour with a show like this.
.@MissyElliott, you are a legend. You worked it and it was absolutely worth it. #VMAs

Meanwhile, Lizzo proved that she's more than capable of showing up for those big gigs, too, as her own medley of 'Truth Hurts' and 'Good as Hell' went down extremely well with both the audience and TV viewers alike.
Her motivational pep talk, meanwhile, was praised on social media with one fan declaring: "I'm gonna wind up loving myself because it's what @lizzo wants, and I want her to always be happy."
"I'm tired of the bullshit," she said. "It's so hard trying to love yourself in a world that doesn't love you back, am I right? So I wanna take this opportunity right now to just feel good as hell. Because you deserve to feel good as hell!"
