The rapper gave evidence on Day 2 of the trial
When news broke that rapper Megan Thee Stallion had been shot back in 2020, fans expected the worst.
Thankfully, the shooting was not fatal but the 'WAP' musician was seriously injured after being shot in the feet.
Now, the trial for the man she alleges pulled the trigger - her fellow rapper Tory Lanez - has begun, and it's clear that Megan is finding the ordeal difficult to relive.
The 27-year-old, whose real name is Megan Pete, told a Los Angeles court that she was shot after leaving a pool party at Kylie Jenner's house in 2020. She was in a car with Lanez, whom she had an on-off relationship with, and a friend who had 'a crush' on him.
When the conversation got heated and Megan disparaged Lanez's musical talent, she said that he got angry. When she demanded to be let out of the car, she claims that Lanez subsequently shot five rounds at her feet, shouting 'dance, bitch!'
"I'm in shock. I'm scared," she said from the witness stand. "I hear the gun going off, and I can't believe he's shooting at me."
Megan Thee Stallion had surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet, but it was impossible to remove all of the fragments and she says that she still has trouble walking in certain shoes.
She tearfully added during her testimony: "I wish he would've just shot and killed me if I knew I was going to have to go through this torture [of a trial]."
She initially told police that she had cut her feet on glass, after Lanez reportedly offered her $1 million to keep quiet about the attack as he was on probation for a weapons offence. She said that she was influenced to lie by the spate of racially-motivated police attacks on black people occurring at the time.
Prosecutors allege that he later "profusely apologised for his actions" in a phone call, and claimed he was "just too drunk".
If found guilty, Lanez faces up to 22 years in prison.
