The singer's mother's parents are Irish

Mariah Carey has launched a range of Irish liqueurs called Black Irish. The Irish cream is available in three flavors - Original, White Chocolate, and Salted Caramel.

Mariah Carey announced her new business venture across social media.

She shared a picture of herself with a bottle of the beverage as she lies in a gold dress on a scenic beach.

She captioned the post: "Introducing BLACK IRISH.

"Two years in the making. Truly a cause for celebration!!!"

The "cause for celebration" line is a throwback to the lyrics of her 2005 song "It's Like That."

The liqueur is a nod to Mariah Carey's mixed heritage. Her mother, opera singer Patricia Hickey, was born and raised in the USA to parents who hailed from Co Cork.

Mariah's father, Alfred Roy Carey, was half-Black and half-Venezuelan. Her parents separated when Carey was three years old.

In her book 'The Meaning of Mariah Carey', the singer has previously written about how being "being of 100 percent "pure" Irish descent was central to [her grandmother’s] entire identity."

She also wrote of her mother's "rebel" background: "My mother not only ignored the moral code of her hometown, she rebelled against it, later becoming active in the civil rights movement."

She describes her father as "A beautiful, complicated black man."
