Erland is Erland Cooper, guitarist, singer and former resident of remote Orkney. The Carnival are guitarist Simon Tong (The Verve, The Good, The Bad, The Queen) and drummer David Nock (Paul McCartney’s The Fireman).
Erland and the Carnival released their self-titled debut album back in January, an album which was recorded at Damon Albarn's Studio 13, overdubbed in Simon’s attic and Erland’s shed and mixed at the garden studio owned by renowned producer Youth. The result is a folk-influenced, mildly psychedelic work, all wrapped in wonderful fuzzy reverb.
If you haven't heard the album, then you're in luck. You can listen to selected tracks from it in the player below.
Erland and The Carnival are coming to Ireland this weekend, playing dates at Dublin's Crawdaddy this Saturday March 6th and Cyprus Avenue, Cork on Sunday March 7th. The lovely people over at [PIAS] have offered us a pair of tickets for each gig to give to some of our loyal readers (that's you!). Just email me at jenny@entertainment.ie with your name and choice of either Dublin or Cork to get your name put on the guestlist for one of this weekend's gigs.
