The first single from Eminem's recently announced sequel to his most successful album has been released to the web.
'Bezerk', from the upcoming The Marshall Mathers LP 2, is a straight-up party tune. "Let's take it back to straight Hip-Hop and start it from scratch", Eminem spits over a Rick Rubin-produced groove, which doesn’t sound too dissimilar to some of the earlier Beastie Boys material.
Eminem took fans by surprise with the recently announced TMMLP2 and even more so by his choice to produce a follow-up to his most successful album. While this news may indicate a return to the material which made Eminem so successful, the initial impression of 'Bezerk' is mixed. It's a well-produced, catchy song but it doesn't have any of the emotional resonance of many of the songs from the first Marshall Mathers LP.
Will the real Slim Shady please stand up? We'll find out in November when the album is released.
