Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac 'go on their way'
Lindsey Buckingham has settled his lawsuit with rock legends Fleetwood Mac for an undisclosed sum.
The guitarist was fired from the group around this time last year, with Buckingham then later suing for his $12 million share from the tour. The details of how Buckingham came to be fired are disputed.
Stevie Nicks claimed that Buckingham's unwillingness to tour was the cause. Buckingham, however, told a different story. "It appeared to me that she was looking for something to hang on me, in order to instigate some kind of coup. Irving (Azoff, Fleetwood Mac's manager) told me a couple of days later that she’d given the band an ultimatum and either I had to go or she was going to go," he explained in a lenghty interview with CBS This Morning.
Buckingham also revealed that Christine McVie had contacted him after the firing. "She wrote me an email and basically said, ‘Dearest Lindsey, just know that I had nothing to do with any of this. Know that I miss you so much.’ She said, ‘I believe deep in Stevie’s heart that she would like you to come home,'" explained Buckingham.
Given how Buckingham has been in Fleetwood Mac for the guts of four decades - give or take a few breaks - it seems unlikely that this is the end of their partnership. Both parties are set to either begin or continue touring, with Buckingham putting together an anthology album of his solo work whilst Fleetwood Mac have replaced Buckingham with Crowded House's Neil Finn and are set to play Dublin in June 2019.
