The rapper was facing up to ten years in prison relating to firearms charges
Lil Wayne has wasted no time in resuming his career in music after his latest scuffle with the law.
The rapper was one of 140 people who received pardons or commutations of their sentences on Trump's final day in office. The pardon follows his meeting with Trump in October 2020, after he had expressed support for the the former president after meeting him to discuss criminal reform. The meeting saw him heavily criticised by many.
Just had a great meeting with @realdonaldtrump @potus besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership. He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done. 🤙🏾 pic.twitter.com/Q9c5k1yMWf

In December, Lil Wayne - real name Dwayne Carter III - had pleaded guilty to one count of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Authorities had found a gold-plated gun in his bag during a luggage search in 2019 at an airport in Miami, and he was due to be sentenced this month, facing up to ten years in prison.
However, his pardon means that he will now serve no jail time - which makes the title of his new track more than a bit on-the-nose.
