Former Fugees star Lauryn Hill is facing jail time having pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges levelled at her by the United State Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Hill had previously denied that she had neglected to pay $1.8 million in income tax for the years 2005-2007 but has now relented and is admitting guilt according to numerous reports online.
Lauryn Hill was one of the most popular Rn'B stars of the 90's, firstly with The Fugees and then later with her debut solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
The singer now faces up to three years in prison and a fine of $75,000. Nathan Hocke, attorney for Hill, stated that: "There are many people in society who fail to file their taxes on time and only face civil liability. They chose Ms. Hill in particular because of who she was."
