The Tenacious D musician joked about the shooting in Sydney

If you're a Tenacious D fan, it looks like you'll only have your records to listen to for the foreseeable future, following the fallout from last week's kerfuffle.

As you may already be aware, the band's future was thrown into doubt after Kyle Gass was presented with a birthday cake on stage in Sydney, Australia the day after an assassination attempt was made on Donald Trump. When Gass was asked what he wished for after blowing out the candles, he quipped: "Don’t miss Trump next time."

His bandmate Jack Black was seen laughing following his remarks, but was later quick to distance himself from the chaos that ensued, releasing a statement saying that he was "blindsided" by the remarks and that "I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.

"After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold," the statement continued. "I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding."

Gass himself also released an apology, saying "I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused."

However, for the latest twist in the story, it seems that Gass's comment has now been deleted from his social media pages in recent days, although Black's remains.

Neither have spoken publicly about the future - or lack of a future - for Tenacious D.
