The world is a bad place and it's all down to pop music according to Kings of Leon. While the band were reluctant to name specific artists, they say it's down to sexualised performances of certain artists that are 'making the world a bad place'. Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga we think they are talking about you. Both stars have come under the firing line lately due to their performances.
Guitarist Matthew Followill spoke out about the pop industry in a recent interview with the Sydney Morning Herald saying, 'Some pop shows I watch, it feels like the end of the world, it's f**king awful. It's not even music any more,' he continued. 'You would never want your children to watch and I can't believe that younger kids, even teenagers are watching that stuff. It almost seems to be making the world a bad place.'
Jared Followill backed up his band member by saying he can't bring himself to watch pop shows anymore. 'They makes me cringe. I can't watch that stuff. Not even just because they're taking their clothes off it's the whole thing, the dance moves, it's not good.'
The duo went onto to say that, they hate the image they have been given of rock and roll 'bad boys' and live a clean cut and quiet life not wanting to buy into the stereotypical rock and roll lifestyle. 'There are a lot of people who buy into their own hype and they become d*cks, I have always cringed at the term 'rock star' and now it's been taken over by hip hop. We are the most boring band. We are polite and always show up on time and if we ever cancel it's for a good reason. We are good boys most of the time. [On Sunday] I was in my room from 7.30pm watching TV'. Rock and roll eh?
Kings of Leon are currently touring Australia after the release of their sixth studio album Mechanical Bull.
