Oxegen headliners Kings of Leon delighted the majority of a drenched crowd in Punchestown on Saturday night - but the performance almost didn't go ahead. The Tennessee foursome headlined Scotland's T In The Park festival on the previous night and, apparently enraged with the poor sound quality, frontman Caleb Followill did his best Pete Townshend impression and smashed his guitar to pieces on stage in a classic rock n' roll tantrum before hurling its remains into the crowd. The Sun quoted a source as saying, "He was livid about the sound and took out his anger on stage without considering the consequences. When they came off stage, tempers flared...it was getting really nasty before their tour manager stepped in. They were even threatening to pull out of Oxegen." Those threats weren't followed through though, as Kings of Leon delighted the majority of the crowd in swirling wind and rain (despite the frankly quite poor sound) with a set dominated by tracks from their two most recent albums Because of the Times and Only By The Night. Followill's guitars survived the performance too, thankfully. A full Oxegen report will follow soon.
