The couple have been together since 2016

None of us are immune to mental health struggles - and that goes for global pop stars, too.

Katy Perry has discussed her battle with depression in a new interview and revealed that she was in a bad place after she released her last album 'Witness' in 2017.

She told Vogue that she had suffered from depression before, but this time found it particularly difficult to overcome.

“I became depressed and I did not want to get out of bed," she said. "In the past, I had been able to overcome it, but this time something happened that made me fall down too many flights of stairs. I had to really go on a mental health journey.”

She said that she had been on the 'Hoffman Process' retreat, as well as going to therapy and doing "plant medicine" - but credits her actor boyfriend Orlando Bloom as being her 'anchor'. The pair have been in an on-off relationship since 2016 but got engaged last year.

"I have a partner who is also all about finding a balance – Orlando, who is on a spiritual journey of his own,” she said. “He’s an anchor who holds me down, and he’s very real. He’s not the number one fan of Katy Perry, but he’s the number one fan of Katheryn Hudson.”

Perry had a troubled 2019, too; last year, a jury ruled that she had 'improperly copied' a song by artist Flame for her 2014 single 'Dark Horse'. Her co-star in the 'Teenage Dream' video, Josh Kloss, also accused her of sexual misconduct by pulling down his underwear in front of other people at a skating rink party. She has not commented on his claims.
