It hasn't often been said that Kaiser Chiefs are trend-setters, but the Yorkshire lads have taken a novel new approach to the release of their fourth album The Future is Medieval, by basically allowing their fans to create their own, personalised copies of the new record.
Here are the details, pay attention.
If you're so inclined, visit the Kaiser Chiefs website where you can listen to snippets of 20 brand new tracks earmarked for the new album. Having evaluated the tracks, you select your favourite ten songs in any order before creating your own album artwork. You can then download your own Kaiser Chiefs album. It doesn't stop there, though. You will then be provided with your very own unique webpage with tools to promote and distribute your version of the album online, where you can earn £1 for every album purchased.
It's certainly an interesting concept, subverting the established means of releasing a record by turning the fans themselves into distributors. Is it all a little too gimmicky though?
Maybe you can let them know in person when they play The Olympia on Tuesday 23rd August. Tix are priced at €30 and are on sale now.
