Some things are better left unsaid.
When you're one-half of the most iconic yacht rock duos of the '70s and '80s, odds are you're going to have some crazy stories to tell along the way.
After all, the yacht rock was the very quintessence of decadent, over-the-top rock stories, so crazy claims such as this aren't exactly wide of the mark. In an interview with PageSix, John Oates - he's the one with the moustache - admitted that he's lost track of how many women he's slept with.
"I'm sure it was thousands," Oates said. "If you didn’t live through the '70s and '80s, if you weren’t a rock star during that time, there’s no way you can comprehend what it was like," adding that the reason for all of this sexual freedom was a lack of mobile phones and social media. Well, that and maybe a lack of understanding of how venereal diseases work.
Funnily enough, the one thing he and Darryl Hall didn't indulge in that was just as prevalent as sex back then was cocaine. "I tried it back in the Studio 54 days and it made me feel so uncomfortable that I couldn’t do it. It just wasn’t my thing."
Maybe all the sex he was having prevented him from really getting into a cocaine habit, so sleeping with thousands of women probably kept him sane in the end.
