As you might have seen yesterday, The 'Wrecking Ball' singer is in hot water with the Monterrey state legislature after stunt at recent concert.
Never one to stray too far from a bit of controversy, Miley Cyrus has landed herself in a bit of bother with Mexican authorities during a recent gig in the city of Monterrey.
Cyrus' live show is something to behold (trust us, we've been there), filled to the brim with X-Rated stunts and gimmicks, usually all of which is in good fun, but the incident when Cyrus' back up dancer took a Mexican flag and, er, spanked her with it has generated the considerable ire of local law official Francisco Trevino.
Trevino confirmed that state legislature has approved a warrant to uphold a complaint against Cyrus which, if it goes forward, could cost the singer $1,200 or 36 hours of jail time, says the Guardian. Mexican officials are extremely sensitive about any indecent acts regarding their flag. Six years ago, singer Paulina Rubio was fined for posing naked with the country's flag draped over here.
Let's face it here: Miley Cyrus isn't going to jail anytime soon, certainly not for anything like this but she could have picked a better day to 'desecrate' the flag (depending on your perspective) than the Mexican Independence Day. Yep, seriously. And all this in a country which has laws against disrespecting their national flag, unlike the United States.
Also, if anything doe actually come of this it's much more likely that the concert promoter will be the one sanctioned instead of Miley herself.
This isn't the first time Cyrus has provoked a response from a government official, either. A scheduled September date in the Dominican Republic for the singer was shelved on "moral grounds", after a commission on the singer concluded she " undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law."
