The world's media has had their gaze firmly fixed upon the Korean peninsula over the course of the last week, since North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has threatened to launch a strikes on his perceived enemies. It the midst of all these shenanigans, it has been pretty easy to overlook the news that South Korean pop sensation Psy will release a new single on Friday.
Psy's last effort 'Gangnam Style' was a sensation. It coined a brand new dance craze, became the most viewed clip on YouTube EVER and announced the South Korean as an international star (as well as a demigod in his home nation).
On Friday the 35-year-old will release his newest song 'Gentleman' and will obviously hope for a reaction similar to that of his previous hit. Psy has been a huge star in South Korea for a decade but it was only when 'Gangnam Style' captured the imagination of the world that he began to make waves overseas.
Will 'Gentleman' have a new Psy original dance routine in it? You can bet your ass it will. His management agency, YG Entertainment, have said the new single is "rousing" and includes dance moves based on traditional Korean moves of yesteryear.
"I've been working and reworking on it continuously and I think the latest version will be the final one", he told South Korean TV. "The dance is one known to all Koreans but new foreigners. It will be presented in Psy style."
"It will be easy for everyone to follow the dance moves".
And what for the song? It doesn't appear that the song itself matters too much but we'll bring it to you on Friday once it's released.
