The awards ceremony is due to to be held on January 31
The 64th Grammy Awards ceremony, which will be hosted in the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles, is now looking likely to be held on a different date. The ongoing pandemic, propped up by the Omicron variant, is a cause for concern for organisers.
According to Billboard, one source with "direct knowledge" told the outlet that the delay is "looking likely".
This would be the second year in a row that the Grammys have been postponed due to COVID-19. Last year’s show was originally set for Jan 31, 2021. However, on Jan 5, it was delayed to March 14 due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles.
The location was also changed from the Crypto.com arena (named the Staples Centre at the time) to the Los Angeles Convention Centre. The change allowed for a smaller crowd.
Jay Z was nominated for three Grammy awards this year, surpassing Quincy Jones for most nominations in the history of the ceremony.
Jon Batiste, has the most Grammy nominations for this year, with 11 in total. Billie Eilish, H.E.R, Doja Cat and Justin Bieber are amongst the other leading contenders for awards. Trevor Noah, who hosted last year, is once again in line to host for 2022.
2022 marks the first year that the Grammys have had 10 nominees in each of their so-called "Big Four" categories — album, record and song of the year plus best new artist
There has not been an official announcement of the postponement as of yet.
