It's been a wild awards show for snubs over the years

The 61st Grammys will be taking place on Sunday, February 10th. And to get your interest piqued, we've created a list of the biggest snubs to ever happen in its recent history.

2016

Do you remember 'Hotline Bling'? Of course you do. Well, apparently the Grammys didn't, and the song didn't even get a nomination in 2016. Drake also had five nominations in 2016, yet didn't manage to win a single one.

It seemed that 2016 didn't favour many songs that were in the top 40 at all. Selena Gomez, Jason Derulo, Demi Lovato, and even Rihanna didn't manage to stir up enough excitement to earn any nominations either. Best Rock album was dominated by female artists this year (including Florence and The Machine who was nominated five times, but no wins); meaning that Mumford & Sons' third offering, and Fall Out Boy's return failed to get a look in.

2017

It seems The Carters have been having a rough time at the Grammys the last few years. Beyoncé received the most nominations in 2017, with nine going towards her newest release 'Lemonade.'

Queen Bey ended up taking home only two awards from the ceremony; Adele nabbed the most awards, winning five in total. And who could forget her acceptance speech where she said Beyoncé is "our light."

2018

Last year's ceremony created the biggest debacle the awards had seen in a number of years; only two of the awards went to female artists. Recording Academy President Neil Portnow came out to suggest that women need to "step up" their game. His statement didn't go down too well, as you would imagine; a lot of female artists were snubbed from being nominated.

Pink raged on Twitter, responding to Portnow by saying "Women in music don’t need to “Step up” – women have been stepping since the beginning of time. Stepping up and also stepping aside."

Kiwi artist Lorde (who was also the only nominee in the Best Album category to not be offered a performance on the night) quickly followed suit. The singer took out a full-page advert in the New Zealand Herald for her fans, saying "My nomination belongs to you. Thank you, also, for believing in female musicians. You set a beautiful precedent!"

Jay-Z, who was nominated for the most awards on the night (eight), also failed to bag a single one. Instead, Bruno Mars took home the most at the ceremony, winning all six of his nominations.

2019?

It will be interesting to see what happens at this year's Grammys. Taylor Swift only managed to grab one nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album, and Ariana Grande just two. 'The Greatest Showman' has also managed to get nominated for two awards in relation to Visual Media.

Kendrick Lemar and Drake have dominated this year however, as well as Lady Gaga for 'A Star Is Born.' For the full list of nominations, head here.

There's not much longer to wait until we will see what unfolds at the Grammys next Sunday.
