The 24-hour special is happening this September
The worldwide charity event is set to host a practically endless list of musical performances from some of the biggest names on the planet.
The likes of Lizzo, Billie Eilish, BTS, Metallica, Green Day, Lorde and Doja Cat are lined up to perform at the 'Global Citizen Live' charity special which will be broadcast around the world for 24 hours on Saturday, September 25.
Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans announced the event today, which calls on philanthropists and multinational businesses to donate money towards ending world poverty. The campaign aims to combat poverty across the globe, tackle climate change and the rollout of more vaccines to countries desperately in need of curbing the virus.
The event will be broadcast live on YouTube, Twitter, and BBC, and will feature live performances across six different continents. New York’s Central Park, the Champ de Mars in Paris, Seoul in South Korea and many other locations around the world will be lit up with special performances for the day.
Also included in the long list of artists for the 'Global Citizen Live' event are: Ed Sheeran, the Weeknd, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Duran Duran, Keith Urban, Andrea Bocelli, H.E.R., Demi Lovato, Christine and the Queens, Coldplay, Adam Lambert, Usher, the Lumineers, DJ Snake, Lang Lang, Burna Boy, Femi Kuti, Angélique Kidjo, Ricky Martin, Alessia Cara, Rag’n’Bone Man, Davido, Tiwa Savage and married couple Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness.
This is only the first "wave" of artists announced so far, with many more being revealed on August 6.
'One World: Together At Home' was another special event that was set up by the organisation in 2020, curated by Lady Gaga. The virtual event featured a mix of artists and celebrities hosting and performing from their homes, including Niall Horan, The Killers, Jack Black, Picture This, Matt Damon and John Legend.
