Glastonbury's organiser, Michael Eavis, says the only certainty for the festival's return is 2022.
Given the current situation with the pandemic, the likelihood is that live music events are done for the remainder of the year, and most likely will not be able to return until 2021, if not even 2022.
That means major music festivals around the world, such as Coachella, Glastonbury, Primavera, Lollapalooza, or any other music festival you can think of is on ice for the foreseeable future. In fact, in an interview with ITV yesterday, Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis admitted that 2022 is the only real certainty.
"I’m still hoping I’m going to be running next year and I’m going to be moving heaven and earth to make sure that we do. But that doesn’t mean it will necessarily happen. That is just wishful thinking really," Eavis told ITV News. That said, Eavis made it clear that he's confident the festival will survive.
"The only certainty I think is the year after, 2022. To be perfectly candid, so we might have to wait for two years maybe. But I am still hoping and we are fighting and working at it all the time to make sure it happens next year," Eavis added.
Had this year's festival gone ahead, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney were all confirmed for the lineup, while Diana Ross was expected to take to the stage for the vaunted Sunday Legends slot.
