The star admits the predatory moment in her new book
"Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger's hands cupping my bare breasts from behind."
It appears that irksome track has reared its ugly head once again. Model and actor Emily Ratajkowski claims that Robin Thicke groped her on the set of the 'Blurred Lines' music video from 2013.
Ratajkowski, now 30, was aged 22 when the alleged incident occurred. Her upcoming book, entitled 'My Body', highlights the moment according to The Sunday Times.
The segment of her book reads: "Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger's hands cupping my bare breasts from behind. I instinctively moved away, looking back at Robin Thicke.
"He smiled a goofy grin and stumbled backward, his eyes concealed behind his sunglasses. My head turned to the darkness beyond the set. [The director, Diane Martel's] voice cracked as she yelled out to me, 'Are you okay?'"
Emily Ratajkowski continues to reference the Robin Thicke moment in her book, reportedly writing that she "felt the heat of humiliation pump through" her body, adding "I didn't react — not really, not like I should have".
Martel told the Times: "I remember the moment that he grabbed her breasts. One in each hand. He was standing behind her as they were both in profile."
She added that she reacted by screaming: "What the f*ck are you doing, that's it! The shoot is over!"
However, Ratajkowski offered to finish the shoot, according to the director: "We kept on and Emily was phenomenal. She's really the star of the video. She's fully mocking the male gaze with her beautiful shape and ferocious energy. She's playful, not seductive. And quite hilarious."
The 'Blurred Lines' music video, which essentially launched Ratajkowski's career, received overwhelmingly negative criticism upon its release, and both the song and video has subsequently been banished from most mainstream media. With lyrics such as "talkin' about getting blasted // I hate these blurred lines // I know you want it", the track was condemned for glorifying rape culture. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards including Record of the Year in 2014.
The song also became the subject of a legal battle with the Marvin Gaye family and estate. They claimed that 'Blurred Lines' infringed on 'Got To Give It' from 1977, and in 2015, Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams were found liable for the dispute. Gaye has since been given a writing credit on the track and his estate will be paid 50% of the track's royalties.
Emily Ratajkowski's book 'My Body' releases on November 9.
