Horse Meat Disco are just one of the acts playing the Casa Bacardí at Electric Picnic this weekend - so we caught up with the London-based DJ collective for a quick chat to find out what makes them tick, their pre-gig ritual and what to expect from their Picnic set this weekend!
What’s the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
I grew up in Italy listening a genre called AFRO - a mix of slow electronica, disco, funky Brazilian, but then I got into everything from rock to hip hop to house and drum and bass.
When did you first realise you wanted a career in music?
When I was 7, I was playing with my older sister records…I knew I loved music from early on.
In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.

How do you wind down after a gig?
Hanging out with mates over a few drinks.

Your best and worst gig so far?
Too many great gigs to pick a favourite! My worst was this June, I was playing in San Francisco after I heard about Brexit which caused a weird atmosphere in the venue!
Whose career do you envy, and why?
I really like what I do…it’s a dream come true getting to do what I do on stage every night.
Vinyl or digital downloads?
BOTH…I grew up with vinyls and still play them sometimes but digital is genius and light to travel.
Give your thoughts on Spotify in three words…
Innovative, experimental, eye-opening.
You can only have three albums on your phone/in your house at any one time - what three would you pick for today?
'Dark Side of the Moon' by Pink Floyd, Saturday Night Fever soundtrack and 'Night and Day' by Joe Jackson.
