Elbow have confirmed they will have a new album as soon as next Spring.

The album which is a follow up to 'Build a Rocket, Boys' will hit our shops on the 3rd March, with an arena tour to take place in April, Here's hoping they might still announce an Irish date. The album is currently been recorded at the bands own studio, Blueprint Studios. So what can we expect from the new album? Garvey revealed the new album has 'some big themes' and described it as 'messing with tempos here and there… it's got some old-school spacerock sensibilities. It's very celebratory in parts, as you'd expect.Tempo changes in the middle of songs happen less and less often, but it's a great musical tool. There are more of those from us than normal on this record.'

As the band grow older Garvey admitted this is reflected in the album, 'A few of the songs are from the point of view of an older man, with quite paternal advice.' The theme of ageing can also be seen in the song 'My Sad Captains'. Garvey explained, 'It mourns the fact you can't see all your friends every night like you can when you're young. It has a line: 'Another sunrise with my sad captains, with you I choose to lose my mind.'

The band are currently still fixing up the album but we can expect big things from the band next March according to the lead singer. 'If we had to release what we've got now, it'd be an excellent record. But you use all the time you've got. If we didn't have a deadline, we'd never finish an album.'
