There's a veritable deluge of upcoming gigs across the country in the month of September, with some great acts from home and abroad taking to the stage and we've taken our red pen out to highlight where we'd be spending our sheckles.
Our particular highlights this time round are the excellent Scottish rock act Frightened Rabbit and Tom Waits' former live-in nanny Jesca Hoop.
As well as these don't forget about all music events taking place at this year's ABSOLUT Fringe! Lots more tix at entertainment.ie/tickets
Frightened Rabbit - Cyprus Avenue - 12th September
The Selkirk rockers will release their upcoming State Hospital EP this month, their first work since The Frightened Rabbit EP last year and the full length The Winter of Mixed Drinks in 2010. The Scotsmen were last here for a show in The Academy on a cold winter's night a couple of years ago - and what it show it was. Fans of moody alt-rock will approve.
The Necks - Whelan's - 15th September
The Necks are fine musicians. The experimental jazz trio have been delighting crowds with their virtuoso playing for over 20 years now and even their most recent material shows no evidence that the Australian band are slowing down. A wonderful collage of jazz, rock and krautrock not to be missed.
Altan - Sandford Church - 15th September
One of Ireland's most loved traditional acts will play Sandford Church as part of the Ranelagh Arts Festival on the 15th of September. The collective have been delighting fans from both home and abroad for years. If you've never seen them play a live show, what better opportunity than now?
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Academy - 19th September
Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis will bring their show to Dublin's Academy on the 19th in support of the upcoming new album The Heist. Macklemore has earned a reputation as a fantastic live performer, so this will be a great opportunity to see what all the fuss is about. Be warned: tickets for this one are selling like hot cakes.
Jesca Hoop - Cyprus Avenue - 21st September
Jesca Hoop launched her career under the watchful eye of one Tom Waits when he overheard her singing while working as a live-in nanny at his house. Waits endorsement was very much justified too, as the Californian is the owner of an astonishing voice. 21st September overs Cork a rare opportunity to see her on these shores, don't miss it!
