The singer slept rough outside of Buckingham Palace on a number of occasions.
He's one of the world's most talked about musicians today but things weren't always so rosy for Ed Sheeran. In his new book 'A Visual Journey', Sheeran details exactly how difficult his life was before his music career took off.
In a section of the book reprinted by the Daily Mail, Sheeran explains: "There was an arch outside Buckingham Palace that has a heating duct and I spent a couple of night's there... I didn't have anywhere to live for much of 2008 and the whole of 2009 and 2010, but somehow I made it work."
Sheeran goes on to say that he spent years without a place to call home, often sleeping on a rotating supply of beds, couches and floors. He adds: "I knew who I could call at any time to get a floor to sleep on. Being sociable helped. Drinking helped."
The singer also explains that he would often sleep on the London Underground for hours, head to a music session and then go back to the Tube for a rest.
Fast forward a few years and Sheeran is now one of the hottest musical properties on the planet. It just goes to show that you can never forecast the exact path you'll take, doesn't it?
