With the repercussions of the Sony DADC warehouse fire yet to be fully understood and realised, some of the many independent labels who lost massive amounts of stock in the incident caused by rioters in North London have begun to speak out.
A spokesperson for Domino Records said: "While relieved that no-one was injured in the incident, we're upset about the loss and destruction of our stock, and thinking of our friends at other independent labels who were also affected by the fire".
Some of the effects of the fire are beginning to be felt, however. The label also revealed that the release of the new Arctic Monkeys single The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala will only be available in a digital download.
Moves are being made to counter the inevitable losses of the warehouse fire, which saw 150+ independent labels lose vast sums of stock. AIM, the Association of Independent Music, has appealed for fans to legally download music from the effected artists and labels to help ease the blow and various fundraisers are in the process of being organised across the UK and Ireland. We'll have more as this develops.
