Following a car accident that left bassist Chi Cheng in a coma, California hard rockers Deftones have gone back into the studio to re-record their new album 'Eros'.

Cheng's accident initially caused a delay on the album, which had already been recorded with the original bassist. However, the band have now posted on their myspace that the previously recorded version of 'Eros' 'doesn't best encompass and represent who we are currently as people and as musicians...We needed to return to the studio to do what we felt was right artistically.'

They also made sure to say that the decision to re-record was in no way related to Cheng's accident, 'Although Chi is not playing bass with us, his presence is dramatically felt in our hearts and on our minds everyday'.

Deftones have enlisted the talents of former Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega to record the new version of 'Eros', while Cheng is reportedly in a 'super coma' cause by strong medication.
