The 6-part series also features Pharrell, Brandi Carlile and Tom Morello with their mums
Dave Grohl has certainly been a busy boy lately.
Not only has the Foo Fighters frontman released a new Foos album and announced the publication of his first book in recent weeks, but the first trailer of his new star-studded documentary 'What Drives Us' landed last week - a film that explores the hows and whys of bands that start off touring in vans, just like he did.
On top of that, his collaboration with Mick Jagger 'Eazy Sleazy' was also released - but the less said about that, the better.
Now, Grohl has yet another offering for fans in the form of a documentary - this time, involving his mother Virginia.
A few years ago, Virginia Grohl published a book called 'From Cradle to Stage', which saw her speak to numerous other fellow mothers of famous musicians in a bid to understand why their offspring became the people they did.
Now, it has been turned into a 6-part TV series of the same name and will feature Pharrell Williams and his mum Carolyn, Tom Morello and his mum Mary, Miranda Lambert and her mum Bev, Rush's Geddy Lee and his mum Mary and Brandi Carlile and her mum Teresa.
Dave - who directed the series - said in a press release: "I believe that the relationship between a musician and their mother is so important because it’s the foundation of their understanding of love, which is surely every artist’s greatest muse.
“Having the opportunity to travel the country and tell the stories of these amazing women behind the curtain not only shed some light on the music that they inspired, but also made me appreciate the love that I was given from my own mother, my best friend. It goes without saying that we are all indebted to the women who have given us life. For without them, there would be no music.”
The first episode of the series will air in the US on Paramount on May 6th, but there's no word yet on when it might be available to Irish audiences.
