The prize for best Irish album of 2009 will be presented on Wednesday March 3rd 2010 at the Choice Music Prize live event at Vicar Street. It will be the fifth outing for the event, which was established to highlight and acknowledge the best in Irish music.

At the moment, the shortlist of ten albums is being chosen by 12 highly qualified Irish media professionals, and should be announced any day now. There's plenty of conjecture as to who will be nominated, and names like Adrian Crowley, Julie Feeney, CODES, David Kitt, Patrick Kelleher, Valerie Francis and The Duckworth Lewis Method have all come up in speculation.

Since Dave Reid and Jim Carroll founded the Choice Music Prize in 2005, Julie Feeney, The Divine Comedy, Super Extra Bonus Party and Jape have scooped the prestigious award. As usual, this year's winning act will receive a cheque for €10,000, courtesy of the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA), and a specially commissioned award, courtesy of Recorded Artists and Performers Ltd (RAAP).
