"It's probably going to be a banger", according to the rapper
It's a collaboration that is certainly unexpected, if not a little bizarre: Compton-born rapper Coolio is reportedly collaborating with Christy Dignam on new music.
The 'Gangsta's Paradise' rapper is a regular visitor to Dublin and has been seen around the city in recent weeks. According to an interview with the Irish Examiner, he is working with the Aslan frontman on a new track.
"We’ve just got into it,” he said. “We’re working on a track. We haven’t even started writing any lyrics. The track is being built as we speak. Somewhere within the next four to six weeks we should have something tangible we could work with. "
He added: "It’s probably going to be a banger, I would imagine. I don’t know if it’s going to be dark and deep or if we’re going to go clubby and happy — that remains to be seen. I’m more inclined with being dark and deep and still being a banger."
Dignam won't be the first Irish act that the 58-year-old rapper has worked with, however: he has appeared on Dublin rap duo Versatile's single 'Escape Wagon' as well as forthcoming single 'Keep On Coming'.
Aslan, meanwhile, celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2022 with an extensive '40 Years, 40 Gigs' Irish tour that includes a date at Dublin's 3Arena on September 17th. There's no word on whether Coolio will still be around to make an appearance, however...
