Chris Martin dropped the news on BBC Radio 2

"Our last proper record will come out in 2025, and after that I think we will only tour."

Coldplay has given 2025 as the final year that they will be recording together as a band. However, they still plan on touring, so it's not the end of the world for fans.

Chris Martin made the "huge revelation" during a BBC Radio 2 Christmas show with Jo Whiley which was recorded on Wednesday. The segment will air on the radio later today, Christmas Eve.

"Our last proper record will come out in 2025, and after that I think we will only tour," he said, "and maybe we'll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes then."

Should Coldplay really throw in the towel come 2025, that will mean they'll have been in the charts since 2000. The band's first studio album 'Parachutes' earned them huge success, with the track 'Yellow' becoming a breakout hit. Every album released since then has seen the band hit the number one album spot in the UK.

With nine consecutive number one releases under their belts, they plan on releasing three more albums before that 2025 end date, according to an NME interview from October. Their most recent album, 'Music of the Spheres', saw them collaborate with BTS and Selena Gomez.

While Coldplay certainly has a huge following, the reaction to their announcement has been quite mixed by people on Twitter. Here's a selection of some of the responses from social media.
