Christy Moore tops the bill for a show celebrating the 65th birthday of Nobel Peace Prize winning Burmese Activist Aung San Sui Kyi.

The show will also feature musical and spoken word performances from broadcaster Eamon Dunphy, Moving Hearts musician Keith Donald and author Deirdre Purcell. Also on the line up are Fiachra Trench, Carmel McCreagh, Brendan Graham, Niall Toner and Noel Eccles.

Entitled 65s for Burma, the show is the brainchild of Keith Donald, who explains why he felt the need to organise the event. 'As a member of Burma Action Ireland, I always felt a connection with Aung San Suu Kyi because we are the same age. Then I realized that I knew several people who would also be 65 this year. The idea for a concert to support her and the cause of a free and democratic Burma was then a no brainer, even for an ould fella! The fact that her birthday falls on a Saturday when there's not much on in the World Cup means that the gods are smiling on this concert!'

Aung San Sui Kyi is currently under house arrest in Burma, as she has been for 14 of the past 20 years. It is hoped that the concert will raise public awareness around the on-going detention of Aung San Sui Kyi and the violent and oppressive military rule which the people of Burma continue to suffer.

65s for Burma will take place at the National Concert Hall on Saturday June 19th. Tickets priced €45/€35/€20 can be booked online at www.nch.ie or by phone on 01 4170000. All proceeds go to Burma Action Ireland
