Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith is recording a children's album with Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Band star Dick Van Dyke.
Smith is co-producing the album, entitled 'Rhythm Train', with LA Kids singer Leslie Bixler. The thirteen track album includes songs called 'Roly Poly In My Guacamole' and 'Lotta Dinosaur', and sees Smith take on the voices of various characters across the album, including a train conductor and a pirate, as well as his usual role playing the drums.
Speaking to Spinner.com, Smith said "I may not be playing as hard but I still am trying to be creative ... It's just trying to make the songs as good as I can. That doesn't change."
Meanwhile, Van Dyke has moved out of his comfort zone to do some rapping on the album. "At my age, my generation, we are not particularly rap-crazy," Van Dyke said. "Rap has a great beat, but I swear to God, I have never been able to understand one word. I don't know what they're saying." According to Smith "It was pretty funny". I bet it was.
