The pop star turned 39 yesterday and celebrated with a gift to fans
It's been a pretty turbulent couple of years for Britney Spears, all in all.
In 2019, her Las Vegas residency came to an abrupt end when her father Jamie suffered a colon rupture that was almost fatal. This led to the pop star entering a psychiatric facility for stress and kicked off the '#FreeBritney' movement after it was alleged she was being held there against her will. It also emerged that the conservatorship held over her estate by her father had been extended by a decade and was supposed to end in 2009.
This year brought further legal wranglings after she launched a (failed) bid to remove her father as her conservator, when a judged ruled that the current arrangement should stay in place until February 2021.
Amidst all the legal drama, it's easy to remember that she's also a pop star - but a new song released yesterday on her 39th birthday is a timely reminder.
'Swimming in the Stars' was originally recorded during sessions for her 2016 album 'Glory', but had remained unreleased until now.
