The pop star's attorney has filed a new petition
The battle over Britney Spears' conservatorship rages on, with the latest development being another petition filed by her attorney.
For the last 12 years, her father Jamie has been the 39-year-old's 'conservator' and has had control of her finances and elements of her personal life. Spears's bid to break free of his control inspired the #FreeBritney movement that was explained in recent documentary 'Framing Britney Spears'.
Although there have been many legal tussles over the years as she seeks to remove Jamie from her business and personal affairs, it ramped up in recent months after she launched a legal bid last August to end his conservatorship over her. At the time, a judge ruled that he remain as co-conservator.
Now, a new petition has been filed by her attorney that requests that Jamie be permanently replaced by Jodi Montgomery - who has held the role since Jamie stepped aside due to health issues in late 2019.
The petition cites an order from 2014 that says that the pop star is not able to “to consent to any form of medical treatment” as the reasoning behind Montgomery taking over the role - although when asked to elaborate on this by CNN, her lawyer Samuel Ingham said that he "cannot comment on a pending case".
Ingham had previously said in December that Britney would not perform live again as long as her father held her conservatorship.
The next court hearing is scheduled for April 27th.
In recent days, Spears has confused fans with multiple references to 'RED' on her Instagram timeline... including a picture of a fridge.
