We've just got off the phone with Primal Scream front man Bobby Gillespie and in a wide ranging interview he gives his thoughts on where modern society has gone wrong, what he thinks of both Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, working with Robert Plant and a whole host of other topics including his opinions on Breaking Bad and his unusual way of sourcing drugs.
When asked about the lyrics on album opener '2013' Gillespie expanded on the message behind a song that begins with the line '21st Century slaves.' He spoke about how the people in power 'don't want workers, or anybody, to have any rights' and 'if you don't stand up for yourself, you'll end up a slave.'
In reply to a question about the modern music scene and specifically the likes of Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, Gillespie simply replied 'That's not music.' He instead went on to mention bands like Deerhunter and the American underground scene in general, but reserved particular praise for Laura Marling's new album 'Once I was an Eagle' saying he thought it was 'great.'
For the day that's in it, we felt we had to ask Gillespie about Breaking Bad and whether he was a fan. He admitted to watching but that he became 'bored with it' and didn’t seem particularly excited about the final episode this evening. He did however mention that, back in his drug user days, he 'used to buy crystal meth from Kurt Cobain's babysitter' and so when it comes to class A drug abuse he 'knows what it's all about.'
Make sure to catch the full interview tomorrow.
