It’s almost here!

One of the biggest and best summer festival line-ups on the Irish calendar, in one of the most scenic settings - there are just a few days to go until the third edition of Beyond the Pale takes place from June 21st - 23rd.

If you’re heading along to the Glendalough Estate this weekend - or are perhaps on the fence about bagging a last-minute ticket - here’s everything you need to know about the event.

WHEN IS IT ON?

The third edition of Beyond the Pale takes place from Friday June 21st to Sunday June 23rd 2024. It takes place in the grounds of the Glendalough Estate in Co. Wicklow.

WHO’S PLAYING?

This year’s headliners are Jungle (Friday), Jessie Ware (Saturday) and Marc Rebillet (Sunday).

Also on the line-up across the weekend are Orbital, Romy, 2 Many DJs, Richie Hawtin, Alvvays, Folamour, Courtney Barnett, Thievery Corporation, Halina Rice and a tonne of brilliant Irish acts, including David Holmes, John Francis Flynn, Rachael Lavelle, Anna Mieke, 49th & Main, MayKay and Elaine Mai, The Redneck Manifesto and many more.

WHAT NON-MUSICAL ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS ARE AT THE FESTIVAL?

There’s lots to do beside music - including Beyond The Plate, the festival’s food area curated by Irish Times food journalist Ali Dunworth; a Wellbeing programme at the Acushla arena, featuring Reggae Yoga, Matcha ceremonies, a massage yurt, soundbaths, stargazing and more; live podcasts; foraging walks; comedy from the likes of Shane Daniel Byrne; an appearance by author Irvine Welsh; THISISPOPBABY’S Cracked Lips Cabaret, and ‘Dexter’ actor Michael C. Hall’s band, Princess Goes.

ARE THERE ANY TICKETS LEFT?

Yes - at time of writing, there were 3-day camping tickets (€259) and limited day tickets for Saturday and Sunday (€109.50). Under-12 children’s tickets are also available to purchase at €24.50, but must be accompanied by an adult ticket. Under 3s are free and do not require a ticket. There are also various fancy camping options available, including Silk Road Tents and pre-pitched tent options - see here for more.

An important thing to note is that the festival is strictly over-21s.

HOW MANY STAGES ARE THERE THIS YEAR?

There are 15 stages in total.

HOW DO I GET TO GLENDALOUGH ESTATE?

Marathon Coaches are running buses from Dublin City Centre and Bray DART station - see here for tickets.

If you’re travelling by train from other parts of Ireland, your best bet is to get to Bray DART station and organise travel from there.

If you’re driving, enter ‘Roundwood, Co. Wicklow’ on Sat Nav or Google Maps, and follow the festival signage from there. Enter the site via the ‘Oldbridge Parking’ route. 

IS THERE FREE PARKING?

Yes, parking is free for festival attendees - and the car park is located as close to the front entrance as possible. The campsite is a 10 minute walk from the entrance, which is good news when you’re doing the dreaded ‘first day trek’ with all your bags and baggage.

WHAT’S THE WEATHER FORECAST FOR THIS WEEKEND?

According to Accuweather at time of writing, it’s looking like a pretty settled weekend, weather-wise - Friday may be a little windy, but sunny and cloudy; Saturday is looking cloudy with the possibility of a morning shower; Sunday will be mostly sunny. Temps will be around 18/19c. Your typical Irish summer weekend, in other words. 

WHAT BOOZE CAN I BRING IF I’M CAMPING?

The maximum allocation for drinks is 24 cans OR 1 bottle of spirits OR 3 bottles of wine per person. A common sense approach will be taken by security. Alcohol can be brought onto the site at the time of first entry only, and there is no re-entry with alcohol once wristbanded. No glass containers are permitted on site whatsoever, so do ensure you have decanted your alcohol into a reusable bottle before arriving at the festival.

ARE THERE SHOWERS ON THE CAMPSITE?

Yes!

IS THERE AN ATM ON SITE?

There is no ATM on site. There will be facility for some cash payments, although card payments are highly recommended.
