Here are the biggest and most interesting releases this month

After a slow start to 2021, the release schedule is well and truly picking up with some big names featuring on the list for March.

Below, we choose five of the biggest and/or more interesting releases to look forward to over the coming weeks.

Kings of Leon – 'When You See Yourself' [March 5th]

The Nashville rock band release their eighth album - their first since 'Walls' in 2016 – this week. Where has the last five years taken the Followills? Produced by Markus Dravs, the man responsible for albums by Coldplay, Arcade Fire and Florence + the Machine amongst others, you can expect a suitably epic comeback from the quartet. Lead single 'The Bandit', meanwhile, sounds like a classic KoL song – which hardcore fans will be pleased about.

Justin Bieber – 'Justice' [March 19th]

Just over a year since his last album, Justin Bieber returns with his sixth album. By the sounds of it, 'Justice' sees the Canadian star in typically self-important form. In his own words, he said “I know that I cannot simply solve injustice by making music, but I do know that if we all do our part by using our gifts to serve this planet, and each other, that we are that much closer to being united. This is me doing a small part. My part.” Right, so. Previous singles 'Holy' and 'Lonely' will feature.

Tune-Yards – 'Sketchy' [March 26th]

Merill Garbus and Nate Brenner first made an impact back in 2011 with their album 'Whokill', which revolutionised the indie/art-pop world, using a variety of instruments, loop pedals and non-instruments to make a quirky, unique indie sound. The last Tune-Yards album in 2018 was a lot more electronic-influenced, but for their fifth album they've reverted to a live band set-up for this. Garbus has spoken about how disillusioned she became after spending nearly a decade on the industry conveyer belt, and apparently that grief, anger and disillusionment seeps into these songs, too. Should be worth a listen.

Death from Above 1979 – 'Is 4 Lovers' [March 26th]

The Canadian rock duo release their fourth studio album this month. The follow-up to 2017's 'Outrage! Is Now' was preceded by the single 'One + One' – and considering how Jesse Keeler and Sebastien Grainger have defied pigeonholing over the course of their career, it'll be interesting to see what they've come up with this time around.

For Those I Love – 'For Those I Love' [March 26th]

One of the most hotly-tipped Irish acts for 2021 finally releases his album this month. Producer, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist David Balfe was inspired to start writing songs after the suicide of his best friend and former bandmate Paul Curran in 2018. His gritty songs tell the story of growing up in working class north Dublin, and the mental health struggles and social disadvantages that have come with his experience. The album is part-love letter/part-tribute/part-spoken word album/part-visual document – and if his incendiary TV appearances on the likes of The Tommy Tiernan Show and Jools Holland are anything to go by, it ought to be special.
