The circumstances surrounding the severe head trauma suffered by Beady Eye guitarist Gem Archer has been revealed.

The guitarist suffered a fractured skull after falling down a staircase at his home, reports The Sun. The incident, which occurred on 1st August, led to the cancellation of a series of Beady Eye gigs in Belgium and Japan and it is now understood that the band have now been forced to shelve their high profile slot at V Festival too.

Archer has now been discharged from hospital and is understood to be on the mend.

A statement on the band's official website today read: "The band apologise to fans, but under the circumstances feel they cannot perform without Gem and want to focus on supporting him through his recovery. Gem was released from hospital yesterday (Thursday) evening and is recovering at home though remains under observation."

In an interesting piece of unintentional synchronicity, Oasis' last appearance was at V Festival in Staffordshire. The band split up shortly after Liam caught viral laryngitis, leading to a shouting match between the two.
