Well, Arthur's Day appears to have been an even bigger success than last year. Town was jammers, as practically ever soul in the city made their way to their closest pub well in time to raise a toast to Arthur at 17.59.
The biggest celebrations were gigs happening in Cork's Savoy Theatre, Galway's Folan Quay, and Dublin's Vicar St, Olympia Theatre, The Village and The Academy, but the biggest party of all took place in the Guinness Brewery at St. James' Gate, where Gary Lightbody led a well up-for-it crowd in a live televised toast.
Prior to that, however, all the event's biggest stars made an appearance on the Red Carpet at St. James' Gate Brewery, where we got to have brief chats with Lightbody and the rest of Snow Patrol. We spoke to actor Tim Robbins about his new album with the Rogues Gallery Band, to local starlet Cathy Davey about Dublin's thriving music scene and to the Nicky and Cian from Westlife about why they won't be following in the footsteps of Take That and inviting Brian Mc "Biker Mouse From Mars" Fadden back for a reunion tour. They were awful diplomatic 'bout it too.
You can see pictures of these stars as well as Manic Street Preachers, Biffy Clyro, Eliza Doolittle's ridiculous outfit, Tinie Tempah's tight pants and loads more from the Red Carpet over in Caught Out now.
Last night I caught music from Snow Patrol, Westlife and Our Thursdays winners Maud In Cahoots at the Guinness Hop Store, while our John Balfe caught Brandon Flowers, Tim Robbins, Jose Gonzales and Slow Club at The Academy. We'll have a full round-up of events online later today. I have to run off to interview Tinie Tempah about his Arthur's Day gig in The Village last night and his debut album 'Disc-Overy' which hits shelves next Friday, while John has "missed his bus"... In the meantime though, you can see what Paolo Nutini and The Script had to say about Arthur's Day over on our Exclusives page.
