The pop star defended the strange clip from a recent interview

Depending on our level of tiredness and many other factors, the pitch and tone of our voice can vary from time to time.

It's rare, however, for someone's voice to alter dramatically in the middle of a sentence.

A clip from an interview showing Ariana Grande doing just that has gone viral, with many fans of the pop superstar scratching their heads and wondering how someone's voice can change in such a dramatic fashion.

In the clip, which was part of an interview with the Podcrushed podcast with actor Penn Badgley, Grande is talking about recording new music and begins the sentence in a normal tone.

However, halfway through her answer, she shifts to a higher-pitched voice that almost sounds like someone else is speaking.

Now, Grande has offered an explanation for the bizarre clip, saying that it was a combination of protecting her voice and something that she's always done.

"habit (speaking like this for two years) and also vocal health," she replied in a comment on the video, which went viral on TikTok. "🍵 i intentionally change my vocal placement (high / low) often depending on how much singing i’m doing 😭 i’ve always done this BYE."

Her seventh album 'Eternal Sunshine' was released in March.
