In light of the 'Leaving Neverland' documentary
'Leaving Neverland' has sent ripples around the world, even with those who were once huge fans of Michael Jackson.
The two-part documentary, which is a co-production from Channel 4 and HBO, has already been broadcast to huge worldwide reaction. Focusing on two of Michael Jackson's alleged child-victims, 'Leaving Neverland' allows Wade Robson and James Safechuck to tell their childhood stories of growing up with the hit singer in tow.
Since being released, there has been a monumental amount of backlash towards Michael Jackson and his estate. Many radio stations around the world have said that they will not continue to play his songs, in support of his victims; Louis Vuitton have said they will be removing items from their collection that feature Jackson; while many others are condemning the documentary, claiming that his victims just want to receive a pay-out. We did an in-depth analysis of what effect it might have on Jackson's posthumous music career, which you can read about here.
The documentary, while splitting opinion, has had an adverse affect on Jackson mega-fans too, and one in particular. A few years ago, John Michael Jackson from Worcestershire in England, legally changed his name in honour of one of his favourite singers.
However, in light of 'Leaving Neverland' John, real name John Lomas, deeply regrets his decision, and wants to revert his name immediately. Speaking to The Mirror, he said "I just want to put this behind me, I can't have this name hanging above me anymore, I just want a fresh start."
Jackson has set up a GoFundMe page to raise the £120 needed in order to legally change his name, and thankfully has already reached his target.
In 1999, due to his obsession with The Beatles, he also changed his name to John Lennon. We wonder if Elton John's new 'Rocketman' movie will have much of an effect on him...
