The band headline the Fall Right Into Place festival next month
The Murder Capital have been hailed by many as one of the best guitar bands on the scene right now.
The Irish quintet released their second album ‘Gigi’s Recovery’ earlier this year, the follow up to 2019’s When I Have Fears; it went in at #1 on the Irish album charts.
They’re headlining Strange Brew's Fall Right Into Place festival in Galway on Sunday 17 September - so we had a chat with the band’s guitarist Damien Tuit.
1. What’s the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
Around the age of 16 was when I was probably most active in my search for music and artists and I’m still listening to a lot of that stuff. Neil Young feels like a constant that’s been there for a long time. And Connan Mockasin 'Forever Dolphin Love' is a special one I found around that time, though I try to save listens of that for special occasions now. Don’t want to wear it out!
2. In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.
Toilet, rush, scream.
3. How do you wind down after a gig?
That’s a good question, it can be tough. A bit of quiet alone time is always helpful.
4. What’s the one song (by another artist) you wish you’d written or recorded first?
I'll round back to the earlier question and say either 'Cortez The Killer' by Neil Young or 'It’s Choade My Dear' by Connan Mockasin.
5. What is your pet peeve?
UHT milk.
6. Name one record, one book and one film that everyone should hear / read / see.
‘Bitches Brew’ by Miles Davis, ‘Bonfire Of The Vanities’ by Tom Wolfe, and ‘Apocalypse Now’ by Francis Ford Coppola.
7. Pick the director and lead actor(s) for a biopic about your life.
Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy - if they’re not available then Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.
8. You’re ordering take-away, what do you get?
Pizza and chips.
9. Describe your perfect day off.
Lazy morning with my girlfriend, nice long nature walk in the afternoon, home cooked pasta for dinner and then read for the evening.
10. Tell us, in one sentence, why we should come to your next gig (whenever it may be.)
Because we’ll be playing new tunes.
BONUS QUESTION: Recommend a podcast and tell us why we should subscribe to it.
I really enjoy Rick Rubin’s podcast. He’s a patient interviewer.
