The Cork native will play Electric Picnic as part of Three's City Stages Collective

Electric Picnic is on the near horizon, and one of the newest stages at this year’s festival is  The Three Music stage.

The eclectic line-up of Irish and international acts will feature the likes of Nell Mescal, The Murder Capital, Amyl & the Sniffers, The Last Dinner Party and more.

It will also feature the City Stages Collective - eight buskers who participated in Three’s ‘City Stages’ scheme over the last while - who will come together to perform at Electric Picnic.

We caught up with one of them, Korey Power, to learn more.

1. What’s the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
Definitely a bit of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Cyndi Lauper, Lionel Richie. My dad got me into music at a very young age so that was around in our household a lot.

2. In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.
Very Very Excited.

3. How do you wind down after a gig?
Definitely a pint of Coors. You cannot beat it.

4. What’s the one song (by another artist) you wish you’d written or recorded first?
'Fairytale of New York' by The Pogues. It comes on every Christmas, it’s a song well known worldwide, I don’t think there'd be a better Christmas song better than that. It's quite amazing, I don’t think it could be done again.

5. What is your pet peeve?
Someone talking during a movie in a cinema. I think it's rude.

6. Name one record, one book and one film that everyone should hear / read / see.
Record: 'Can’t Help Falling In Love' by Elvis Presley. You can't beat it, it puts you in a great mood. When you’re feeling down in life, turn this on and I promise you you’ll be back up on your feet.

The one book, to be honest I’ve only ever really read one book and its called 'The Secret'. It gave me inspiration when I need a bit of motivation.

A film to see would be a film for all ages, a movie called 'Stand By Me'. It kind of got me into music when I heard 'Stand By Me' by Ben E. King playing in the background. It’s when I fell in love with music.

7. Pick the director and lead actor(s) for a biopic about your life.
It'd definitely be Quentin Tarantino and the lead actor would have to be Joaquin Phoenix. I think he would do a great job of me trying to make it as a musician and Tarantino giving out to him because he might not do his job right by doing a movie about me.

8. You’re ordering take-away, what do you get?
It'd have to be nice and simple – a chicken curry with fried rice. If you’re hungover in bed or if you’re not even hungover it's easy on the stomach, easy on the eye and it's easy to digest. You can’t beat it.

9. Describe your perfect day off.
I don’t want to give away too much details, but my perfect day off would be taking a stroll down to the beach, jamming out some chords, listen to some music and the sound of the ocean. Get away from city life because I’m from Cork city, so I definitely like taking peaceful trips away from that.

10. Tell us, in one sentence, why we should come to your next gig (whenever it may be.)
Well if you’re going to come to a gig of mine, for your first time experience it’ll be for free. Next time you got to pay! There’ll be cans there for everyone too.

BONUS QUESTION: Recommend a podcast and tell us why we should subscribe to it.
'The Fahdcast'. It’s a friend of mine who hosts it, you can subscribe to it on Spotify and he talks about everything that needs to be discussed on this planet. Local Cork guy on the rise. If you like Joe Rogan, Theo Von, those type of podcasts this is definitely one to subscribe to.
