We look back on the Canadian singer's career - and some of her best non-musical moments

You may not be a fan of her music, but if you're not a fan of Celine Dion the person, then that's another matter entirely.

The French-Canadian singer has enjoyed a lengthy and successful career since the early 1980s, when she broke through to the mainstream after representing Switzerland in the Eurovision (that's one for you, fact fans.) Since then, she has become a household name for her powerhouse balladry – but we love her for her endearingly bonkers personality, as evidenced by the clips below.. It must be fun to be Celine Dion.

With her new album 'Courage' released this Friday, it's the perfect opportunity to sweep the hits to one side and take a look at some of her most hilarious (some of them, unintentionally so) moments from over the years.

1) THAT HURRICANE KATRINA INTERVIEW

There are iconic interviews, and there are I.CON.IC. interviews. Her interview with Larry King following the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Katrina in 2015 (and her donation of $1 million to the relief fund, fair play) – live from her dressing room in Las Vegas, falls firmly in the latter category. The drama. The histrionics. The sheer emotion of it all. The SINGING. Larry King just let her talk, but he couldn't have stopped her if he tried. It also spawned this, one of our all-time favourite YouTube videos.

2) THAT TIME A DRUNK FAN CRASHED THE STAGE

This could have been handled so differently (and so badly) by other artists. When a drunk fan crashes the stage of her Vegas residency and attempts to dry-hump her leg, instead of calling security, she talks to the woman with grace and humour, and shows real empathy for her situation (her son had just had a bone marrow transplant). That's real class.

3) WHEN SHE GARGLED 'MY HEART WILL GO ON' LIVE ON GERMAN TV

It does exactly what it says on the tin; on German TV, she proceeded to gargle the melody from the biggest hit of her career,'My Heart Will Go On', as Boris Becker looked on. Why? Because she's Celine Dion, that's why.

4) HER DODGY IMPRESSIONS OF CHER, MICHAEL JACKSON & SIA

Ever wondered what Celine Dion doing an impression of Cher singing 'Freres Jacques' might sound like? Wonder no more. Her appearance on Jimmy Fallon's show in 2016 resulted in her partaking in the 'Wheel of Musical Impressions' challenge, and let's just say that there's a reason it's been watched 39 million times.

5) HER CARPOOL KARAOKE EPISODE

We have complicated feelings about Carpool Karaoke. While there's undoubtedly entertainment/cringe value in watching big stars sing along to their own hits, you also have to sit through James Corden's gut-churning sycophancy. However, Celine's Carpool Karaoke might be the most epic one ever done: from handing out designed shoes to shocked passers-by to singing 'Baby Shark' and ending on a 'boat' at the famous Bellagio fountain in Vegas, it's brilliant.

6) DANCING HER ASS OFF AT A LADY GAGA CONCERT

She may be one of the most famous singers on the planet, but at the end of the day, Celine Dion is also a mere mortal (we think, at least). That means going to a Lady Gaga concert and dancing your ass off, cameraphones be damned.

7) THAT TIME SHE BUILT A WATERPARK IN HER BACK GARDEN

Let's be honest – if we could afford it (and we didn't have to deal with Irish water 365 days a year), most of us would probably throw down a few million on a waterpark in our back gardens – right? As she told Jonathan Ross in 2013: "Some people do drugs and go out every weekend. I built a waterpark". Her Jupiter Island estate in Florida, also boasted its own arcade. Insane, yet completely relatable.

8) WHEN SHE SANG IN FLUENT CHINESE

Is there nothing she can't do? Even if she learned this song phonetically, it's still a seriously impressive feat to master a language like Chinese in song-form.

9) REVIEWING HER OWN FASHION LOOKS

She's been in the public eye for several decades at this point, so of course there are going to be a few fashion mishaps during that time period. When asked to review her own looks, she makes a quip about each one before flinging the card aside. For example, her scantily-clad rig-out at the 2003 Billboard Awards: “Y'know, everyone was getting undressed. Jennifer Lopez came and she was naked; I said 'Me too'. Next!”

10) HER BONKERS INTERVIEW WITH WEIRD AL YANKOVIC

What happens when you put Celine Dion and Weird Al Yankovic in a room together? A meeting of surrealist minds that causes the earth to tilt on its axis, that's what. In fairness to Celine, she plays along with his bonkers line of questioning brilliantly. “I could smell the cooking of my mother...”
